Aspen strengthens global reinsurance leadership team

28th June 2021 - Author: Luke Gallin

Aspen Re, the reinsurance arm of Bermuda-based Aspen Insurance Holdings Limited, has announced a number of appointments designed to further strengthen its global leadership team.

Aspen logoFirstly, Beatrice Morley, currently Global Head of Casualty, will take on the additional responsibilities as Aspen Re’s Head of Asia Pacific.

Based in Singapore, Morley will report to Christian Dunleavy, Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO), Aspen Re and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Aspen Bermuda.

Additionally, Morley has been appointed as CEO of the reinsurer’s Singapore branch, subject to approval by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

Morley takes over as Head of APAC from Philip Hough, who is returning to Zurich after spending four years in Singapore.

His focus will remain on his role as Global Head of Property, leading Aspen Re’s property strategy, reporting to Dunleavy.

Finally, Nick Macfarlane, previously Head of International Treaty at Asia Capital Re, has joined Aspen Re as Head of Property Treaty (London).

Based in London, Macfarlane will report to Jamie Lewis and steps in to lead Peter Panayi’s team, who is currently on a leave of absence.

Commenting on the appointments, Dunleavy said: “We want Aspen to be a business that not only attracts leading talent but supports those individuals in building long-term and successful careers with us. These appointments are testament to this, further strengthening our global reinsurance leadership team.

“We’re pleased to announce Beatrice’s new role, while Phil’s move to Zurich will enable him to focus on his position as Global Head of Property. We’re also delighted to welcome Nick to Aspen and his extensive experience will add further weight to our strong underwriting team in London. Together, these appointments demonstrate both the depth of our internal talent and Aspen’s ability to attract leading external expertise. I look forward to working with Beatrice, Phil and Nick in their new roles.”
