Aviva announces a number of new leadership appointments

UK domiciled insurer Aviva has announced a number of leadership changes, which includes the appointment of Colm Holmes, currently Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Aviva UK General Insurance, as President and CEO of Aviva Canada.

As well as becoming President and CEO of Aviva Canada, Holmes will continue to head the firm’s Global Corporate and Specialty business.

Current President and CEO of Aviva Canada, Greg Somerville, is stepping down from the role and taking on a role as a non-executive director of Aviva Canada.

At the same time, Aviva’s current UK Claims Director, Rob Townend, has been named Managing Director of Aviva UK General Insurance, reporting to Andy Briggs, Aviva UK Insurance CEO.

Other new appointments include Phil Bayles continuing his role as Managing Director of UK Intermediaries, while taking on responsibility for leading the trading strategy.

Aviva’s Chief Financial Officer of Global Corporate and Specialty, Patrick Tiernan, will now take on the role as Managing Director of Global Corporate and Specialty, UK and Europe. While Andrew Morrish, currently UK Motor Claims and Technology Director at Aviva, will transition to the role of UK GI Claims Director.

CEO of UK Insurance, Andy Briggs, said; “Under Colm’s leadership, Aviva’s UK general insurance has gone from strength to strength. He has been responsible for driving strong growth in both revenue and profit, as well as achieving high customer satisfaction and developing new insurance products that help our customers manage the risks of everyday life.

“These appointments reflect the quality and depth of our management team across Aviva. I’d like to thank Colm for his contribution to our UK business, and I look forward to continuing to evolve and simplify our UK business around the changing needs of our customers.”
