AXA’s Frédéric de Courtois elected President of Insurance Europe

Frédéric de Courtois, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of AXA Group, has been elected President of Insurance Europe after receiving unanimous support.

de Courtois succeeds Andreas Brandstetter, the Chairman & CEO of the UNIQA Insurance Group, to lead the Federation of European re/insurance associations over the next three years.

While delivering his speech during the 14th International Conference in Helsinki, de Courtois commented, “My main priority will be to contribute to building a better and more competitive Europe. The insurance industry is part of the solution and is keen to engage constructively & work with all stakeholders to develop and co-build the right solutions.’

de Courtois is an industry veteran with over three decades of experience. He has been AXA’s Deputy CEO since 2021, and is a member of its Group Management Committee.

The executive has also previously served as the CEO of Global Business Lines & International at Generali Group and a Member of the Group Management Committee. He was responsible for seven business units, namely, EMEA, Asia, Americas, Global Corporate and Commercial, Europ Assistance, Group Employee Benefits, Global Health and the bancassurance team.

His other roles include serving as the CEO of AXA Assicurazioni and AXA MPS, the two main Italian subsidiaries of the firm, CEO of the hub Italy, Greece and Serbia, member of the Group Life & Savings Board, Group Sponsor of the Savings initiative and Group Sponsor of the bancassurance initiative.

Before moving to Italy, de Courtois served in key leadership roles in AXA Japan, AXA Asia P&C, AXA RE and previously in the US and Germany.
