BMS Group (BMS), a re/insurance broker, has introduced BMS Bacchus, a specialised stock throughput insurance solution for wineries.

bms-group-logoDesigned to protect wine throughout its lifecycle—from grape harvest through production, storage, and distribution—BMS Bacchus provides a centralised tool for wineries to make informed choices about risk management and resource allocation using advanced data insights.

One of the standout features of BMS Bacchus is its wildfire risk prevention service, developed in collaboration with Green Shield Risk Solutions and FireBreak Risk.

This service helps wineries understand potential wildfire interactions with their properties and assess structural vulnerabilities.

Green Shield Risk Solutions gathers and analyses various data sources, including aerial imagery, to predict wildfire behaviour around insured properties. The service provides precise assessments of a fire’s likely speed, direction, and scope, aiding wineries in deploying resources efficiently to reduce risk beyond standard insurance models.

FireBreak Risk complements this with a focus on structural risk, using ground-level imagery to identify vulnerabilities. Wineries receive actionable prevention advice via a user-friendly app, along with optional on-site evaluations.

Wineries committed to high standards of wildfire risk prevention can qualify for premium rebates and other financial incentives based on adherence to the recommendations from these partners.

Beyond wildfire risk, BMS Bacchus also offers broad “all-risks” protection, including coverage for floods, earthquakes, leakage, contamination, temperature fluctuations, processing errors, and extra expenses. Additionally, wineries have the option of selling price valuation coverage for wine at any stage, from harvested grapes to completed products.

Louise Rothschild, director of cargo and stock throughput at BMS, commented: “Extreme weather conditions, exposure to wildfire, contamination, handling errors, issues during transport, among others, are some of the daily concerns of winemakers.

“They face a challenging landscape that is fraught with risks, and which calls for a bespoke approach that takes the particularities of the industry into account. Wine is not only a booming business, but also an art, and a labour of love. BMS Bacchus was born out of the wish to provide some peace of mind to passionate winemakers, ensuring they can focus on what they do best.”

Ian Gormley, UK CEO, added: “BMS Bacchus joins a growing suite of solutions that are designed to meet the precise needs of clients. By partnering with proven risk experts such as Green Shield Risk Solutions and FireBreak Risk, we are able to offer wine producers data-informed ways of thinking about the risks they face, and more importantly, support in managing them.

“What Louise and her team have achieved with this solution is precisely what BMS is all about: delivering the strongest possible outcomes for clients around the world, supported by data and innovation.”
