International sector-based law firm HFW has announced the addition of Mark Meyer, who joins from US law firm Crowell & Moring as Senior Partner to its London office

hfwCrowell insurance associate Marli Wildschut also joins HFW as part of the move.

According to the announcement, this continues HFW’s growth of its global insurance practice, following the firm’s recruitment of senior corporate and regulatory insurance partner Bob Haken in London and insurance disputes expert Amanda Kujda in Houston.

Meyer has over two decades of experience advising insurers and reinsurers on coverage and other disputes. During his time at Crowell & Moring he headed its European insurance practice.

He acts for insurers and reinsurers in the London and European markets on a range of complex and high-value insurance-related disputes, with a particular focus on reinsurance and delegated authority disputes, and aviation insurance.

Meyer’s work has included representing reinsurers on several airline, airport, and manufacturer losses, including matters related to the missing Malaysian 370 flight; representing reinsurers on first party property damage and business interruption losses from the World Trade Center; counselling clients on their insurance exposure arising from recent car emissions investigations; and advising on cyber risk exposures, particularly in property insurance.

HFW’s new Senior Partner is also legal counsel to the Reinsurance Wordings Experts’ Forum and is a member of the Aviation Insurance Association, the Professional Liability Underwriters Society, the London Court of International Arbitration, and the International Committee of ARIAS U.S.

“I’m very pleased to be joining a recognised market leader for global insurance law. Having worked with HFW in the past on client matters, it was clear that the firm has an inclusive culture and that partners work closely together, which is something that appeals to me, and having the support of a world-renowned aviation team will add real value to my aviation practice, Meyer commented.

HFW now has more than 20 specialist insurance and reinsurance partners throughout the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific, offering a comprehensive range of advisory, dispute resolution, transactional, and regulatory services to clients across the sector.

Chris Foster, Global Head of Insurance and Reinsurance at HFW, said: “Mark is a highly experienced practitioner and is another important addition to our team. His particular expertise in complex reinsurance disputes further strengthens our leading offering in that area, and his aviation practice aligns perfectly with what is one of HFW’s core sectors globally.”

He added: “We continue to expand our insurance and reinsurance practice globally, and will actively pursue opportunities to further strengthen our offering to clients on complex, high value or reputational matters across our international network through the recruitment of leading partners and teams.”
