Markel International, the specialist insurance and reinsurance division of Markel Corporation, has appointed Warren Towner as its new head of underwriting management and reinsurance placement, making him responsible for all outwards reinsurance buying.
Towner was previously general manager of Markel’s reinsurance division, so has the experience required to take on responsibility for the group’s reinsurance and retrocession buying strategy. He will report to Jeremy Brazil, director of underwriting at the firm.
Brazil commented on the appointment; “This is an important role in bringing together the underwriting operations to support our underwriting divisions and corporate objectives. I am delighted that Warren has accepted this new role and I look forward to working closely with him.”
In the new role, Towner will be responsible for all of Markel International’s outwards reinsurance buying. He will also support the underwriting function with control and management, and will also take some responsibility for the ongoing development of Markel International’s multiclass underwriting facilities.
