MetLife adds former Swiss Re CEO Mumenthaler to Board of Directors

Former Swiss Re Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Christian Mumenthaler, has been elected to join the Board of Directors of MetLife, Inc., a global provider of insurance, annuities, and employee benefit programs, effective May 1, 2025.

Mumenthaler’s career at Swiss Re Group spanned more than 25 years. During this time, he held numerous senior leadership roles, including Group Chief Risk Officer, Head of Life & Health, Chief Marketing Officer, Reinsurance, and Chief Executive Officer, Reinsurance .

He also established and headed Swiss Re’s Group Retro and Syndication unit. In 2011, Mumenthaler was appointed to the Group Executive Committee and served as Group CEO from 2016 to 2024.

Mumenthaler has earned recognition in the insurance industry and other sectors due to his leadership roles. He has served as co-chair of the World Economic Forum Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders and held board positions with the Geneva Association and economiesuisse.

Additionally, he has also been an active member of the Pan-European Insurance Forum, the Global Reinsurance Forum, and the steering committee of the Insurance Development Forum.
