The Insurance Information Institute (Triple-I) has elected Matt McHatten, current president and chief executive officer at MMG Insurance, as chair of its Executive Leadership Committee (ELC).

McHatten is succeeding Jennifer Kyung, CEO and founder of NextGen Underwriting and former P&C chief underwriting officer at USAA.

Sean Kevelighan, Triple-I CEO, said: “As Triple-I continues to look toward the future in how we inform important discussions on risk and insurance, we are thrilled Matt will be at the helm as ELC chair.

“His broadminded leadership style brings additional perspective, skills and experience in driving innovation and navigating complex challenges such as legal system abuse and climate risk resilience.”

“It is important to also recognize and thank Jen Kyung for her esteemed service as Triple-I chair these past three years,” Kevelighan continued. “She was instrumental in bringing new members to Triple-I and diversity to our ELC.”

McHatten has been part of MMG since 2001. Prior to becoming president and CEO, he served as executive vice president and chief operating officer.

During McHatten’s long tenure, he has led a variety of corporate initiatives, fostered agency partnerships and strategically positioned the company for growth.

Commenting on his appointment, McHatten said: “I am honored to be elected chair and hopeful that my years of experience at MMG, a regional carrier dedicated to the independent agent channel, will add to the variety of viewpoints on issues Triple-I and the ELC are focused on.

“This organization is not only a trusted resource, but also a major voice for the insurance industry. I’m proud to serve on this committee and to help continue this important work.”

McHatten is past chair and member of the NAMIC Management Conference Board, as well as a past member of the Hartford Steam Boiler Advisory Board.
