Ping An Insurance (Group) Company of China, Ltd., an integrated financial services providers with a presence in insurance, banking, and asset management, has launched the international edition of its risk mitigation platform, “EagleX,” through its subsidiary Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance (P&C).

As extreme weather events such as heavy rainfall, floods, heatwaves, droughts, and tropical storms become more frequent, the global economic toll from natural disasters continues to rise.

Since its launch in 2017, “EagleX” has leveraged technologies like big data analytics, meteorological disaster modelling, satellite remote sensing, and machine learning to provide precise risk assessments.

The platform analyses over two trillion data points covering geographic information, weather patterns, disaster history, and insurance data.

It assesses risks for nine different types of natural disasters and generates easy-to-understand visual risk maps along with fifteen types of alerts.

These capabilities have been widely adopted across various insurance sectors, including agriculture, property, and automobile insurance, enabling governments, businesses, and individuals to substantially minimise disaster-related financial losses worth billions of RMB.

In 2024, the platform detected over 3,600 high-risk situations and issued 10.5 billion disaster warnings through AI-powered phone calls, mobile app notifications, and text messages, reaching approximately 67 million policyholders across multiple insurance lines.

Prior to Typhoon Yagi’s arrival in Hainan province, “EagleX” issued more than 24 million advance alerts nearly three days ahead, helping residents and vehicle owners prepare effectively.

In another instance, while underwriting a major hydropower project in Pakistan, the platform detected shifts in the terrain and sent timely warnings that prevented a landslide, saving significant economic losses.

“EagleX (Global Version)” provides governments, businesses, and individuals worldwide with tools for early disaster detection, emergency response, and post-disaster claims verification aimed at limiting losses.

The platform’s main features include the creation of digital risk maps for six types of disasters—such as earthquakes, extreme rainfall, typhoons, and floods—covering global regions; the delivery of up-to-the-minute disaster alerts based on detailed meteorological data; and the use of satellite imagery from multiple sources for remote monitoring and claims support in various contexts.

Ping An P&C stated, “Looking ahead, we will continue to leverage Ping An’s technological strengths to drive innovation, optimise our platform’s functions, and deliver increasingly smart, precise, and efficient natural disaster risk management services to global users, thus safeguarding urban safety, corporate stability, and sustainable social development.”
