Bermuda domiciled reinsurance company Watford Re Ltd., part of re/insurance holding group Watford Holdings Ltd., has hired Liz Cunningham, formerly a Partner at Deloitte, as its new Chief Risk Officer.

Liz Cunningham, Watford ReWatford Re operates as an investment oriented, or total-return style, reinsurance company and is backed by Arch Capital and investment manager Highbridge Principal Strategies.

We understand that Liz Cunningham joined Watford Re as its Chief Risk Officer from the beginning of January.

Cunningham had worked as an insurance and actuarial focused Partner at Deloitte in Bermuda from 2010 to 2016, before then becoming the Chief Risk Officer of Nautilus Indemnity Holdings, an insurer and reinsurer that provided professional indemnity to Deloitte companies.

Prior to working at Deloitte, Cunningham had worked at Scottish Widows and consultancy PwC.

In joining Watford Re as Chief Risk Officer, Cunningham’s experience in actuarial, insurance, reinsurance and financial risk related positions will be valuable for the company.

Current President and Chief Risk Officer of Watford Re Jon Levy remains listed on the companies website, so it’s not clear at this stage whether his role is changing or if Cunningham is replacing him.

Commenting on her appointment, John Rathgeber, the firm’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said: “We are delighted that Liz has agreed to join Watford as its CRO.  She brings a wide range of technical and practical experience to our company and adds to the strength of our management team.”

Cunningham will be based in the firm’s Bermuda office and will report to President and former CRO, Jon Levy, who said: “We are fortunate to attract a professional of her caliber and I look forward to her insights and leadership in this important role.”
