The Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR), which represents the public policy interests of Bermuda’s re/insurers, has announced the appointment of Collin Anderson as Director of Policy and Regulation, starting July 1.
With 23 years of experience in both public and private sectors, Anderson has a robust background that includes regulatory and supervisory roles at the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA), leadership positions within the Government of Bermuda, and various roles in the insurance industry.
In his new role, he will lead ABIR’s efforts in representing the public policy interests of Bermuda’s international re/insurers, who provide consumer protection worldwide. Anderson’s responsibilities will include directing ABIR’s public outreach, researching international public policy and insurance regulation developments, managing ABIR’s Hamilton office, and serving as ABIR’s corporate secretary. He will report directly to John Huff, ABIR’s CEO.
John Huff, CEO of ABIR, commented: “Collin’s broad experience, encompassing public policy, regulation, legislation, executive management, property and casualty insurance and international affairs, makes him a perfect fit for this role. I am confident he will be a great asset to ABIR, as we continue to represent the public policy interests of Bermuda’s international insurers and reinsurers. We’re pleased to welcome Collin on board.”
Recently, Anderson worked as a consultant for the Government of Bermuda, focusing on implementing Bermuda’s Corporate Income Tax (CIT) for the Ministry of Finance. His work covered policy, legislative, operational, communications, and financial aspects of the new regime.
During his nearly five years at the BMA, he was the lead supervisor for several Bermuda insurance groups, managed companies under close monitoring, and collaborated with international regulatory bodies. His last position at the BMA was Deputy Director of Strategy & International Affairs.
Anderson’s 12-year tenure with the Government of Bermuda included roles as Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Economy and Labour, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of National Security, and founding Director of the Health Insurance Department in the Ministry of Health.
Pina Albo, Chair of ABIR and CEO of Hamilton, added: “Collin’s high level of technical and leadership skills, and his experience of public and private sectors, equip him well to serve our members. It speaks to the depth of talent we have in Bermuda that we were able to recruit such an ideal candidate locally. We are delighted to welcome Collin to ABIR.”
Before his government service, Anderson held various positions in the insurance industry across New York, Bermuda, Washington DC, and London, including roles with the ACE Group of Companies (now Chubb).
