Global insurance carrier American International Group, Inc. (AIG) has hired Nancy Bewlay from AXA Group to serve as its new Executive Vice President (EVP) and Global Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO), based in New York, reporting to Eric Andersen, President and Chief Executive Officer of AIG.
Bewlay joins AIG’s Executive Leadership Team on September 8th, 2026, when she will assume responsibility for the insurer’s underwriting strategy. Her role will include advancing underwriting management best practices and overseeing AIG’s global underwriting organisation, as well as its focus on underwriting excellence and discipline within the firm’s defined risk appetite.
She has more than three decades of industry experience, and joins AIG from French insurer AXA, where she most recently served as Group Chief Underwriting & Pricing Officer and a member of the Group Management Committee since 2023.
Prior to this, Bewlay held numerous roles within AXA XL, the property & casualty and specialty risk division of AXA, including Global Chief Underwriting Officer – Long Tail Lines, Global Chief Underwriting Officer, and more recently, Chief Executive Officer of Reinsurance.
Earlier in her career, Bewlay held senior leadership roles at Swiss Re, one of the world’s largest reinsurance companies, C.V. Starr, and General Star Management Company.
