AmTrust Europe Limited, a subsidiary of AmTrust Financial Services, has made two new board appointments as it looks to pursue growth in key lines of business.

handshake-bwAndrew Bulley has been appointed Chair of AEL’s Board and Chair of its Remuneration and Nomination Committee, replacing Robert Stansbury following his retirement.

Bulley joined AmTrust in 2021 as Chair of AEL’s Risk and Compliance Committee, bringing a wealth of regulatory and sector experience.

Before joining AmTrust, he served as a Partner in Deloitte’s EMEA Centre for Regulatory Strategy, where he was responsible for monitoring and advising on strategic, regulatory, sectoral, business model, governance, risk and capital management, and conduct issues.

Prior to Deloitte, Bully served at the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) as the Director of Life Insurance Supervision. He was in charge of directing the day-to-day prudential supervision of the UK life insurance sector, and led all aspects of Solvency II implementation within the UK.

Prior to this, Bulley spent around 15 years with the Financial Services Authority (FSA), latterly as the Head of Major Insurance Groups.

In this remit, he led the FSA Department responsible for the supervision and business model analysis of the UK’s major international insurance groups. He was a member of the project board overseeing the implementation of Solvency II/IMAP in the UK and was involved in all aspects of the UK’s move to “Twin Peaks” financial services regulation.

Bringing over 30 years of experience across the international insurance and reinsurance industry, Peter Goddard will replace Bulley as Chair of AEL’s Risk and Compliance Committee, following regulatory approval.

Goddard joined AmTrust earlier this year as an Independent Non-Executive Director, prior to that, he was the Chief Legal and Compliance Officer for Unum UK, where he was responsible for integrated Legal, Risk and Compliance activities across Europe.

Previously his remits included Senior Independent Non-Executive Director, Chair of the Audit Committee and Chair of the Risk Committee for ProSight Specialty Managing Agency Ltd, an integrated Lloyd’s Vehicle of ProSight US.

He was also with Brit Insurance for some ten years as Managing Director, Europe with prior roles including Commercial Director and Group Secretary.

Angel Mas, CEO, AEL and Managing Director, AmTrust International Specialty Business Unit, said: “I am delighted with Andrew’s appointment as Chair of AEL’s Board and with Peter’s addition to the Board.

“We continue to benefit from Andrew’s broad regulatory and industry sector experience, which has made him a hugely valuable addition to the Board. We will also benefit immensely from Peter’s knowledge of the market, underwriting and distribution expertise as we continue to pursue growth in our key lines of business.”
