Antares Global, the international insurance and reinsurance group, has announced the launch of Scorpius MGA, a new platform created to support managing general agent (MGA) business through a combination of underwriting capacity, operational support and governance services.
The business will be led by chief executive Ian Morris and has been introduced by Antares Global as part of its broader strategy to enhance the way it works with brokers, underwriting partners and customers.
According to the company, Scorpius MGA will provide a centralised structure for oversight and governance, allowing MGAs to be integrated through a controlled and structured process.
Antares added that partners using the platform will have access to a range of support functions, including pricing, modelling and exposure management services.
Antares Global stated that the launch builds on its established history of working with MGAs across its UK insurance company, Lloyd’s and reinsurance operations. The company said the main aim of Scorpius MGA is to connect profitable MGA business with underwriting capacity from Antares Insurance Company, while also expanding distribution opportunities, increasing its presence within specialist and retail insurance markets, and accelerating product development.
The company said the platform forms part of its wider objective to grow distribution capabilities in the UK and selected international territories through partnerships with organisations and individuals that have proven market experience. Antares explained that Scorpius MGA will operate alongside its existing underwriting businesses, providing an additional route to market and helping the group reach targeted customer segments through specialist partners, while maintaining underwriting discipline and operational control.
Antares Global also highlighted that Scorpius MGA differs from many traditional MGA platforms because it is not tied to a single source of underwriting capacity. The company said that where opportunities sit outside Antares’ underwriting appetite, the platform can arrange placement with third-party capacity providers to ensure suitable business can still be supported.
Ian Morris, CEO of Scorpius MGA, commented: “The platform is the natural progression to consolidate our long-standing relationship with the MGA market through a centralised, specialist platform. By providing MGAs with access to capacity and operational expertise, we enable talented underwriters to focus on what they do best: underwriting.”
Mike van der Straaten, CEO of Antares Global, added: “This is a strategic evolution of our relationship with the MGA market. Antares has a long history and deep experience of supporting MGAs – these partnerships strengthen our ability to access high-quality distribution, support specialist underwriters and diversify the business into new markets.
“Launching Scorpius is the natural next step as we continue to expand, allowing Antares to deploy its capital more effectively while redefining MGA infrastructure for the next generation.”
