Aon, the global professional services firm specialising in risk, insurance, retirement and health solutions, has announced changes to its middle market leadership structure following the integration of NFP into Aon’s business.

Doug Hammond, who has served as CEO of NFP, will move into the newly expanded role of Global Executive Chairman for Aon’s middle market business, including NFP. The appointment is effective immediately, with Hammond reporting directly to Aon President and CEO Greg Case.

In his new position, Hammond will work with Case on Aon’s wider middle market strategy and the development of capabilities shared across Aon and NFP. The role will focus on strengthening the firm’s approach to serving middle market clients across its businesses.

“Doug’s vision, focus on client need and passion for people helped build NFP into a high-performing business with strong leadership that is well positioned to serve clients with distinction into the future,” added Case. “As Executive Chairman, Doug’s experience will further accelerate our middle market strategy across Aon, bringing innovation and excellence to this important market segment.”

Aon has appointed Mike Schneider to lead its North American middle market operations as CEO, Middle Market, North America, Aon and NFP. Schneider will report to Anne Corona, CEO of North America at Aon, and will oversee the middle market business across both organisations.

Schneider joined NFP in 2003 and most recently held responsibility for the company’s US Central and West regions as president. His background includes more than 20 years working across insurance, finance and risk management consulting.

Ethan Foxman will take on the role of President, Middle Market, North America, Aon and NFP, reporting to Schneider. Before the appointment, Foxman was president of NFP’s Atlantic Region, where he oversaw operations spanning several business lines.

Aon has also appointed former NFP Executive Vice President and Chief Sales Officer Mike James as Chief Growth Officer, Middle Market, North America, Aon and NFP. James will report to Corona and will focus on growth across the middle market business.

Schneider, Foxman and James will join Aon’s North America Executive Committee. They will also work with Denise Perlman, who has been responsible for leading Aon’s middle market operations in North America.

The changes also include new roles for NFP President and COO Mike Goldman and Executive Vice President Ed O’Malley. Both executives have become Vice Chairmen of NFP with immediate effect, with the appointments intended to provide continuity as the business moves forward under the revised leadership structure.

The changes extend to Aon’s EMEA operations. Matt Pawley, Managing Director of NFP for the UK and Ireland, will report to Hammond as part of the revised structure. Hammond and Pawley will work with Tracy-Lee Kus, Co-CEO of EMEA at Aon, on opportunities to develop the middle market business across the region.

Hammond said: “I am excited to move into this role working with Greg to guide Aon’s overall middle market strategy, including NFP. It has been a professional honour to lead NFP and I am proud of everything we have built together across our company.

“Thank you to Mike and Ed for their more than 20 years of leadership, partnership and contributions to NFP’s growth, and I look forward to their ongoing contributions in their new roles. The ongoing, experienced leadership of Mike Schneider, Ethan Foxman and Mike James reflects the commitment they have demonstrated throughout their careers at NFP and the opportunities ahead as they advance connectivity across Aon to bring the best of our capabilities to clients.”
