Global insurance and reinsurance broker Aon was hit by a cyber attack on February 25th, 2022, according to an 8-K filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the U.S.
In its filing, Aon states that it identified a cyber incident impacting a limited number of systems.
In response, Aon promptly launched an investigation, and worked with third-party advisors, incident response professionals, and counsel.
So far, Aon says that the cyber-attack has not had a significant impact on its operations.
The broker adds that although it’s still in the early stages of assessing the breach, based on current information, Aon “does not expect the incident to have a material impact on its business, operations or financial condition.”
Insurers, reinsurers and intermediaries hold a lot of sensitive data, and as such, are prone to cyber-attacks and notably ransomware incidents.
Furthermore, as Russia continues to invade Ukraine, cyber experts are anticipating heightened cyber activity and attacks.
