Global professional services firm Aon has announced the launch of Totalis Specialty Group, a unified specialty insurance group that brings together NFP Totalis Program Underwriters and Aon Affinity’s U.S. programs business under a single go-to-market strategy and identity.
Totalis Specialty Group reportedly combines specialty underwriting, program administration, distribution, technology and data capabilities to support brokers, carriers and clients.
Aon said the new unified group, representing more than $5.5 billion in premium volume in the U.S. and with an addressable market available globally, comprises a portfolio of specialised underwriting and program businesses, and will remain separate from Aon and NFP’s broking businesses.
“By bringing together the complementary strengths of NFP Totalis and Aon Affinity’s U.S. program business, Totalis Specialty Group creates a more connected and impactful specialty insurance organisation designed to support stakeholders through continued growth, innovation and investment across these segments,” Aon explained.
Totalis Specialty Group is expected to begin operations on January 1, 2027, led by two experienced Aon and NFP executives: Kip Kelley as Executive Chairman and Tom Gillingham as CEO.
Aon noted that current businesses will continue operating with minimal disruption under their existing leadership teams throughout 2026 while increasingly benefiting from the resources of a combined platform.
Totalis Specialty Group will launch with 46 specialty programs, supported by relationships with more than 25,000 active brokers, 100 carriers and reinsurers, and 350 sponsors.
Aon added, “This strong foundation positions the combined business for continued investment in specialty underwriting capabilities, new program development, expanding distribution and strategic growth initiatives.
“Totalis Specialty Group is positioned for continued growth through the development of new specialty programs, strategic acquisitions and expansion into additional specialty insurance market segments.
“Initially focused on the U.S. market, the business is expected to utilize Aon’s existing specialty capabilities in key international markets over time, creating opportunities to connect specialty insurance experience, distribution and innovation on a global scale.”
Joe Peiser, CEO of Risk Capital for Aon, commented, “The launch of Totalis Specialty Group reflects our commitment to creating more connected and scalable solutions across our Risk Capital business.
“By bringing together complementary underwriting and program capabilities under a unified strategy and brand, we are strengthening our ability to invest in talent, technology, data and innovation while helping stakeholders navigate an increasingly dynamic specialty insurance marketplace.”
Aforementioned Gillingham said, “The combined capabilities of our specialty and U.S. programs business creates a powerful multi-channel distribution platform for the future.
“Bringing together a diverse portfolio of underwriting and program businesses creates one of the industry’s broadest specialty distribution and underwriting networks built for growth. We are excited to use this momentum to serve brokers, carriers and clients in new ways.”
Kelley observed, “As client needs continue to evolve, breadth and specialisation have become increasingly important in the specialty insurance segment.
“Totalis Specialty Group enhances our ability to bring together this experience, strong market relationships and differentiated capabilities across a broad range of insurance market segments. That combination positions us well to capitalize on opportunities across the specialty landscape.”
