Apollo promotes Jackson to Head of Marine, Energy & Transportation, Mason to retire

Martin Jackson will succeed Simon Mason as Head of Marine, Energy & Transportation at Apollo, the specialist Lloyd’s re/insurance group, effective 1st January 2026, following Mason’s retirement.

Mason, who has been with Apollo since 2013, will remain available to support the business during the upcoming reinsurance renewals, continuing to provide advice and guidance to ensure a smooth transition.

During his time at the company, the executive has played a pivotal role in developing the Marine, Energy and Transportation (MET) division into a strong and successful unit, Apollo highlighted.

James Slaughter, Group Chief Underwriting Officer, commented: “Simon has been a cornerstone of Apollo’s Marine, Energy and Transportation (MET) business since joining in 2013. His leadership, technical insight and commitment have left an enduring legacy, and we wish him every success in his well-earned retirement.

In addition to his promotion, Jackson while also retaining his position as Class Leader, Aviation. As part of a planned succession, Apollo has also promoted Mark to Deputy Head of MET and Ciara Sheikh to Class Leader, Cargo.

Steve Portman will continue in his role as Class Leader, Energy, alongside Rob Johnston, Class Leader, Marine & Energy Liability; Iain Henstridge, Class Leader, Hull; Richard Panter, Class Leader, Specie.

“These promotions reflect the exceptional depth of talent we have within Apollo and the MET division, and I am confident they will continue to drive growth across our specialist lines. As we look ahead, the MET division is well-positioned to strengthen our underwriting performance and deliver value for our clients and partners,” Slaughter added.
