Global climate risk solutions platform Arbol has announced that Matthew Gabin has joined the company as Chief Legal Officer and Deputy Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Gabin is a veteran lawyer with extensive experience in parametric reinsurance, weather risk transfer, and insurance-linked securities (ILS).
He joins Arbol from Swiss Re, where he served as general counsel to their weather risk and commodity trading businesses.
In his new role, Gabin will take over and further build out Arbol’s legal and compliance team and help to oversee the company’s operational functions.
“We are excited to welcome a colleague who has such relevant experience advising some of the world’s leading reinsurers on parametric risk transfer, weather risk and other areas so close to our core business,” said Sid Jha, founder and CEO of Arbol.
“As we continue to grow and expand our business into new verticals and markets, Matthew and his very specific expertise will be critical to our success.”
Prior to Swiss Re, Gabin counseled (re)insurers, investment firms and corporates at Mayer Brown LLP.
He also spent nearly a decade providing legal and operational advice on alternative risk transfer to Allianz Risk Transfer (part of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty).
“Parametric insurance is an indispensable tool for boosting resilience and closing the protection gap, and I’m thrilled to join a team that is driving innovation in the space.” said Gabin.
“Arbol has achieved a lot in a short period of time and is positioning itself as a leader in parametric insurance and climate risk solutions for businesses globally. I look forward to putting my skills to work to help Arbol reinvent the way the world manages climate risk.”
