Arch Insurance names Hugh Sturgess as CEO of International business

Arch Insurance has named Hugh Sturgess as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Arch Insurance International and appointed Gale Lockbaum and Jean-Pierre Galipeault to senior roles within its Canada business.

hugh-sturgessSturgess has been with Arch Insurance since 2005 and is currently President and CEO of Arch Insurance Canada, where he is responsible for a multi-line underwriting portfolio.

In his new position, which is effective from 1 January 2019, Sturgess will be tasked with managing Arch’s insurance operations in Europe, Bermuda and Australia from his base in London.

As CEO of Arch Insurance International, he succeeds Matt Shulman, who was recently named CEO of Arch Insurance North America.

Sturgess will report to Papadopoulo, Chairman and CEO of Arch Worldwide Insurance Group, who commented: “Hugh is an experienced industry executive who knows and values the Arch brand.

“His elevation to lead our International operations is well deserved, and I’m confident in his ability to successfully build on the transformation started by Matt Shulman.”

In conjunction with Sturgess’s new appointment, Lockbaum will become President and Chief Operating Officer of Arch Insurance Canada, while Galipeault will become Arch Insurance Canada’s Chief Regional Executive, with both appointments effective from 1 January, 2019.

Lockbaum has been with Arch Insurance Canada since 2011 and currently serves as Chief Financial Officer. In his new role, he will be responsible for finance, actuarial, claims, risk and compliance, as well as overseeing regulatory matters.

Galipeault has been with Arch Insurance Canada since 2013 and has managed its Lenders business unit. He will now assume responsibility for strategy, distribution and underwriting.
