Argo hires new Brazil CEO from Swiss Re

25th April 2019 - Author: Matt Sheehan

Argo Seguros, the Brazilian underwriter of specialty insurance and reinsurance products and a member of Argo Group, has announced the appointment of Newton Queiroz as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective May 1, 2019.

Queiroz joins Argo Seguros from Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, where he most recently worked as CEO of Mexico and Central America.

He started at Swiss Re in 2012 as Chief Commercial Officer of Latin America, where he gained experience in underwriting, broking and sale, including developing the sales strategy and culture for Swiss Re in the region.

Queiroz has 19 years of experience in the re/insurance industry and, prior to Swiss Re, was a director at Aon, specialising in aviation and oil gas.

In his new role, he will report to Jorge Cazar, head of Latin America at Argo Group.

“Argo Seguros has been at the forefront of innovation within Argo Group and the Latin American insurance sector,” said Cazar. “Our technology and service-driven approach has been highly successful in Brazil, enabling us to develop into a significant player in the market.”

“Newton joins Argo Seguros to take the business to the next level,” Cazar continued.

“His proven and consistent track record in building successful insurance operations in the region will be decisive in the strategic expansion of Argo Seguros in Brazil.”
