Asian Re, the intergovernmental organization established in May 1979 under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) has re-elected Dr Gholamreza Soleymani unanimously as the Chairman of Bangkok-based Asian Reinsurance Corporation (Asian Re).
This is Dr Soleymani’s full term as Chairman for 2023-25 following the successful completion of his first term since September 2022.
Asian Re has also announced that of Atty. Reynaldo A Regalado, Head of the Insurance Commission of the Philippines has been elected as Vice Chairman of the Corporation for his first term of two years.
Regalado is a lawyer, who previously served as the head of the Philippines Overseas Employment Administration from 1998 to 2001. He was also the Philippines labour attaché in Japan from 1993 to 1996 and in South Korea from 2005 to 2006.
Asia Re commenced operation in 1980 and its areas of operations are Asia, the Middle East and Africa. At present, the company has 10 regular founding member states ie., Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Iran, the Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
In addition, 19 leading insurance and reinsurance firms from the Asia Pacific region are Associate members of Asian Re.
Asian Re accepts treaty and facultative business covering all traditional classes from insurers in member states and beyond in Asia and Africa and has been assigned a rating of B+ (Good) by A.M. Best with a positive outlook.
