Assurant names Carey Roberts EVP, Chief Legal Officer & Corporate Secretary

Assurant, Inc. has announced the appointment of Carey S. Roberts as Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary, effective October 30th, 2017.

Assurant logoRoberts joins the firm from Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc., where she had held the position of deputy general counsel and corporate secretary since October 2014, with the addition of chief compliance officer from September, 2015.

Her new role will see her have responsibility for Assurant’s international legal department, which includes compliance, government relations, internal audit and all other legal matters that have an impact on the company.

The role of Corporate Secretary sees Roberts act as a liaison to the Assurant Board of Directors, and she joins the firm’s senior leadership team and Management Committe, succeeding Bart Schwartz, who is to retire at the end of the year.

Assurant President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Alan Colberg, said; “Carey is a seasoned legal professional, whose skills have been honed through both global law firm and in-house practice experience.
