AXA Digital Commercial Platform (AXA DCP), an AI-powered risk management system, has struck a deal with ICEYE, the manufacturer and operator of the world’s largest synthetic aperture radar (SAR) microsatellite constellation, enabling it to track floods, wildfires, hurricanes and other extreme weather events with what the companies call an “unprecedented” level of precision.

AXA DCP, AXA’s newest division designed to tackle today’s complex “polycrisis”, combines technology, vast data resources, third-party software, AI, and human expertise on a unified AWS-built platform, providing end-to-end risk management, from predictive insights to proactive prevention.

Meanwhile, frequent readers will know that ICEYE’s SAR technology delivers near-real-time intelligence in challenging environmental conditions, serving governments, defence forces, intelligence agencies, and commercial sectors.

These capabilities have established ICEYE as a key defence-intelligence partner to a number of NATO members, including Finland, Poland, and the Netherlands.

At the end of last year, ICEYE secured €150 million in new funding and a €50 million secondary placement, led by General Catalyst with broad pan-European participation.

The firm also entered into a new strategic global partnership with Risk Management Partners, a Munich Re unit that draws on the group’s reinsurance expertise to deliver advanced climate risk insights through its Location Risk Intelligence platform.

This latest partnership with AXA DCP is said to come at a critical moment, as the world grapples with deeply interconnected risks, making them impossible to address in isolation and harder to manage overall.

Pierre du Rostu, CEO of AXA DCP, hailed the agreement with ICEYE as a “landmark deal”, adding, “We are responding to the challenge of the polycrisis by evolving. Our goal is to make use of the very best solutions available to move beyond response to prediction and prevention.

“ICEYE is a world leader in monitoring natural catastrophes and provides the real-time insights our clients require even when it is dark, when there are clouds, when there is dust, smoke, or volcanic ash.

“We are pleased to be able to combine our expertise with their proprietary data to support our clients and wider society. This is a clear reflection of our ongoing commitment to using state-of-the-art technology to transform insurance.”

Stephen Lathrope, SVP Solutions at ICEYE, added, ‘Scaling access to ICEYE’s advanced SAR technology through AXA DCP is a transformative step for the insurance and risk management sector.

“It enables organisations to harness cutting-edge innovation at scale, unlock new insights, and fundamentally change how they prepare for, respond to, and recover from catastrophic events. Together, we are helping unlock new insights and strengthen catastrophe response strategies.”
