AXA XL names Bewlay as Chief Executive Reinsurance as Cooper steps down

AXA XL, the property & casualty and specialty risk division of global insurer AXA, has named Nancy Bewlay as its new Chief Executive Reinsurance, taking over from Charles Cooper.

nancy-bewlay-axa-xlBewlay brings more than three decades of industry experience to the role and has held numerous senior roles at XL Catlin and then AXA XL. In her new position, Bewlay will lead the company’s reinsurance business.

Most recently, she served as Global Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO), where she was responsible for AXA XL’s underwriting governance, pricing, and P&L globally. Bewlay joined the firm in 2017 as Global CUO for Casualty.

Earlier in her career, she served as Head of Underwriting for Casualty at reinsurance giant Swiss Re, where she led the underwriting and actuarial treaty teams in the U.S. and Canada. Bewlay also held the role of President and CEO of C.V. Starr & Company (California) from 2011 to 2013.

Effective immediately, Bewlay assumes the Chief Executive Reinsurance role from Cooper, who has decided to step down after more than 20 years as a senior executive in the firm’s reinsurance operation.
