AXA XL’s McGovern succeeds Brooks as Chair of Lloyd’s Market Association

Sean McGovern, currently the leader of AXA XL’s insurance business in the UK & Lloyd’s market, has become the new Chair of the Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA) for a three-year term, replacing outgoing Chair Andrew Brooks.

lma-lloyds-logoMcGovern serves as Chief Executive Officer, UK & Lloyd’s and a Director of their managing agent, AXA XL Underwriting Agencies Ltd. He is also a member of the Council of Lloyd’s, a trustee of the Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund and was previously Chair of the London Market Group.

The executive joined XL Group in 2016 as Chief Compliance Officer, Head of Regulatory & Government Affairs, before his appointment as General Counsel.

Prior to this he spent two decades at the Lloyd’s of London Corporation, where he held leadership positions including Chief Risk Officer & General Counsel and was a member of the Lloyd’s of London Franchise Board from 2014 to 2016.

Brooks is leaving the position after serving for two terms. Commenting on his departure, Sheila Cameron, Chief Executive Officer of the Lloyd’s Market Association, said: “I am deeply grateful to Andrew Brooks for serving an unprecedented two terms as our Chair, helping to see us through the challenging years around Covid and into the current era of stable profitability for Lloyd’s and its members. Andrew’s support and passion for the LMA and our market have been pivotal, both to me personally and to the LMA as a whole.

On Brooks appointment, Cameron stated: “I look forward now to working with Sean McGovern as our new Chair.
