Timothy Braun has been appointed as the Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) of Global Financial Lines at Bermuda-based re/insurer AXIS Capital. His appointment was effective June onwards and is based out of New York, U.S.
Braun is a market veteran and has three decades of industry experience. He has now been with AXIS for over 20 years and prior to this appointment held the position of Executive Vice President, Financial Institutions at AXIS Insurance.
As the Executive VP, he developed a diverse, multi-line proprietary product portfolio. Braun worked with actuaries, finance and claims experts to hedge against systemic/catastrophic risk by incorporating counter-cyclical elements.
Under his leadership, the annual written premium across the portfolio exceeds $193 million and the total written premium over the entire period exceeds $2.45 billion.
Prior to that, as the Senior Vice President of AXIS Insurance, he was responsible for the transition of the Financial Institution (FI) Division of AXIS Insurance from Kemper Insurance
Previously, Braun served as the Vice President of Financial Industry Solutions at Kemper. He was the founder of the Financial Institutions Division and built the team that started up the Professional Liability Underwriting Division.
Braun has previously also served as the Vice President of the Financial Institutions Group at Aon, and as the Assistant Vice President of the Professional Liability Division at Crystal & Company.
Braun started his career at the Financial Institutions Department at Chubb in 1988.
