Barbican Insurance hires energy underwriter from XL Catlin

11th May 2017 - Author: Staff Writer

Barbican Insurance has announced former XL Catlin energy class underwriter, Jacqueline Wiffen, as newly appointed class underwriter for upstream energy, with immediate effect.

Wiffen, an insurance veteran with over 15 years industry experience, will report to Olivier Decombes, divisional head of energy, power and utilities, Barbican Insurance.

Commenting on the appointment, Decombes said; “Jacqueline brings expansive expertise in the energy sector to our team. Her career has extended along the full length of the energy stream, given her both the insurance and broking perspective, and seen her work on global as well as region-specific portfolios. Despite current challenging market conditions, we see potential for growth across the energy sector, and to fully capitalise on that we need to ensure we have the best market talent throughout our team.”

Prior to her Barbican appointment and from 2014, she worked for XL Catlin as class underwriter for upstream energy, having previously acted as regional director of Asia-Pacific for power, energy and construction at Lockton (Singapore), and energy underwriter at Catlin (Singapore).

Wiffen added; “It is a very exciting time to be joining Barbican’s energy division. The teams are incredibly motivated, and have the wealth of experience and underwriting acumen needed to forge ahead in the energy sector. Olivier has put in place a very clear strategy for achieving sustainable growth and I am very much looking forward to helping to deliver on that strategy.”
