Canopius Group, a global specialty and property & casualty re/insurer, has announced the appointment of Adrian Phipps as Chief People Officer, effective June 2026.
Phipps will succeed Chief Human Resources Officer Barbara Turner, who will retire later this year following more than a decade with the organisation.
In his new role, Phipps will lead Canopius’ people strategy, focusing on talent development, culture, and supporting the company’s continued growth. He will report to Neil Robertson, Group Chief Executive Officer.
He is an accomplished people and HR leader with more than two decades of multi-sector leadership experience. Most recently, he served as Chief People Officer at Secret Escapes, supporting the business through a period of significant growth and change, while developing a strong people function.
Previously, Phipps held various leadership positions including Director of People & Organisation at Arqiva, and HR Director for UK Personal Insurance at RSA.
Robertson said, “We believe Canopius can become a truly great company, defined by outstanding performance and powered by exceptional talent. That’s why we’re so excited to welcome Adrian at this important moment – we’ve committed to making significant investments to bring in new talent and to also cultivating the talent we have in our business. Adrian’s leadership will be invaluable in this effort to build our star team.
“I would also like to sincerely thank Barbara Turner for her exceptional leadership of the Canopius Group HR function over almost a decade — her impact on our culture and organisation has been profound.”
Phipps commented “I’m thrilled to be joining Canopius and its leadership team at a time of such fantastic progress and ambition. I’ve been really impressed by the positive, dynamic culture that Canopius has built over recent years, and I look forward to helping shape the next phase of our people strategy.”
