Canopius Group, a global specialty and P&C re/insurer, has announced the additions of Nicholas Whettem and Namrata Soni to its newly created Natural Resources team.
The re/insurer recently restructured its underwriting capabilities with the formation of a consolidated Natural Resources team, which integrates energy (upstream, midstream, and downstream), heavy industry, power and renewables, and construction.
Whettem has been appointed Head of Power and Renewables. Based in London, he will report to Alois Rouffiac, Chief Underwriting Officer UK, and lead the development of Canopius’ portfolio.
He joins Canopius from Zurich, where he served as a senior underwriter in power generation and sustainable energy. Whettem also brings extensive London Market experience, having previously managed MS Amlin’s Energy & Industry underwriting portfolio.
Soni has been named Energy & Construction Underwriter. She will be based in Sydney, Australia and will report to Andrew Ziolkowski, Country Head of Australia and New Zealand (ANZ).
Soni brings around 15 years of industry experience with expertise in specialty underwriting, portfolio management, and risk management across construction, energy, and renewable projects in Australia and New Zealand.
She joins from Chubb Insurance Australia, where she was a senior underwriter specialising in construction, renewable energy, and power generation. Prior to that, Soni held roles at QBE Insurance and Zurich.
