Coalition has announced that it has appointed Gareth Machin as its first Manchester-based underwriter in the UK.
Machin’s appointment comes as part of the company’s ongoing drive to provide regional support for brokers in addition to its London headquarters.
Machin, a former senior professional indemnity (PI) underwriter with Allianz, has joined Coalition UK’s growing team of regional risk engineers with specific responsibility for developing relationships with brokers based in Northwest England.
Prior to joining Allianz, Machin worked as a senior cyber underwriter at Chubb.
He also previously served as a senior associate, cyber, with broker WTW, and also underwrote PI and financial lines with both RSA and QBE.
Addressing his appointment, Machin said: “I simply could not turn down the chance to work for such a forward-thinking and innovative company. I hope the combination of Coalition’s offering and my experience and relationships will make this a success. I look forward to supporting local brokers and helping businesses to better protect themselves against cyber risks.”
Stephen Wares, Coalition’s UK Head of Risk Engineering, commented: “Gareth’s appointment marks an acceleration of our focus on regional development and underwriting. He’ll be our first Manchester-based regional risk engineer who will also act as a gateway to our underwriting expertise for our brokers in the region. With his considerable experience and local knowledge, Gareth will be a valuable addition to our growing team.”
Coalition recently introduced its suite of Active Cyber Insurance products in Australia.
According to the firm, only 20% of Australian SMEs currently hold cyber insurance, and expertise in this field among insurance brokers is said to be limited.
