CopperPoint Mutual Insurance Holding Company, a provider of workers’ compensation and commercial insurance, has appointed Kellen Booher as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, marking the next phase in the company’s leadership evolution.
He steps into the role following Marc Schmittlein, who previously announced his intention to retire and will continue serving as Chair of the Board.
The transition reflects a structured succession process, with Booher and Schmittlein collaborating closely over the past year to maintain continuity and reinforce the company’s long-term direction. Booher joined CopperPoint in 2025 as President and Chief Operating Officer, where he led operational performance across the organization and supported key strategic initiatives.
Prior to CopperPoint, Booher held senior leadership roles at Chubb, most recently as Executive Vice President and Head of Consumer & Small Commercial for major international markets. During his tenure, he also led major digital initiatives across North America and global operations. Earlier in his career, he built experience in product development, distribution, and analytics leadership at The Travelers Companies.
Schmittlein, who became Executive Chair in 2024, will remain actively involved as Board Chair. Since joining CopperPoint in 2016, he has guided the company’s shift from a single-state workers’ compensation provider to a diversified regional property and casualty insurer, including overseeing acquisitions such as Pacific Compensation and Alaska National.
“Along with the entire leadership team, I am energised and excited about CopperPoint’s future. The strengths of our people – our deep underwriting and claims expertise, uncompromising values, and steadfast commitment to our customers, partners and communities – continue to drive CopperPoint forward,” added Booher.
“The investments over the past decade under Marc’s leadership have built a strong foundation and set us on the path for continued growth and transformation. Our teams are using our significant technology, data and analytics assets to quicken our pace of innovation, and we are offering our policyholders and partners more products and services than ever before, all provided with our exceptional standard of service. It is a privilege to lead this organisation as we advance our strategic vision and deliver even greater value to those we serve in the years ahead.”
“Kellen brings a collaborative and forward-thinking leadership style that aligns strongly with CopperPoint’s values and vision,” said Schmittlein.
“His ability to connect with people and shape an inspiring path forward will continue to strengthen the momentum carrying CopperPoint into its next chapter. On behalf of CopperPoint’s board, I can say we have the utmost confidence in Kellen’s leadership and vision, as well as his commitment to the mutual model and its long-term focus on serving policyholders, agent and broker partners, employees, and the communities we support.”
