Dr Robert Salzmann appointed CUO at SI Re

SIGNAL IDUNA Reinsurance Ltd (SI Re), a Swiss reinsurer headquartered in Zug, has announced that Dr Robert Salzmann has been appointed to the Executive Board and designated as Chief Underwriting Officer, effective 1 January 2025.

si-re-logoThis move ensures that underwriting leadership remains a core component of the executive management team and closely aligned with SI Re’s strategic objectives.

Bertrand R. Wollner, CEO of SI Re, said: “Robert Salzmann brings together our expertise in underwriting and the ILS markets. As a member of the executive management, he will further enhance the critical importance of these two areas, which have played a pivotal role at SI Re since its inception.

“Our presence in the reinsurance and convergence markets has established SI Re as a reliable and stable reinsurer. Under Robert’s prudent leadership, we will continue to pursue this successful path with determination.”

Salzmann began his career at SIGNAL IDUNA Reinsurance Ltd (SI Re) in 2014 as an actuary and has taken on increasing responsibilities over the years. In 2017, he was appointed Head of Pricing and ILS Analytics, later taking charge of SI Re’s ILS Markets & Retrocession in 2019. His contributions led to his promotion as Head of Underwriting in 2023.

Prior to joining SI Re, Salzmann worked with KPMG starting in 2012, where he served as an Assistant Manager in the Quantitative Finance Group, advising global insurers and investment banks.

He holds a master’s degree in applied mathematics and a doctorate from ETH Zurich, RiskLab Switzerland, with a focus on mathematics. Salzmann is an SAA-accredited actuary and a Certified Extreme Event Modeler™ with the AIR Institute. He is currently advancing his expertise through an Executive MBA at the University of Zurich, specialising in digital transformation.
