Everest Insurance, the insurance division of Everest Re Group, has appointed Mark Maritzen as Global Chief Underwriting Officer, effective immediately.
Maritzen based in New York will report to Mike Karmilowicz, President and CEO of Everest Insurance.

Maritzen has been appointed to oversee all global underwriting operations for Everest Insurance®, including the establishment of risk appetite and underwriting guidelines, portfolio management, price determination, and knowledge sharing.
In this role, he will collaborate with Regional Chief Underwriting Officers to enhance underwriting standards and achieve global alignment.
With over 25 years of extensive experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry, Maritzen has worked in various countries. His most recent position was at Berkshire Hathaway Re, where he managed and underwrote property program business.
Prior to that, he served as the Chief Underwriting Officer for Property North America at AIG, where he played a key role in developing underwriting strategies and guidelines for both Retail and Wholesale Property in the United States.
Additionally, Maritzen held notable positions such as Head of U.S. Property at Endurance Insurance/Sompo International and Tokio Marine Global, and he has gained valuable experience at Guy Carpenter and Marsh throughout his career.
Maritzen’s appointment follows the recent promotion of Mike Mulray as President of North America Insurance.
