Fathom, a specialist in flood risk modelling, has announced that the UK region of its flagship flood catastrophe model, Global Flood Cat, is now free to access.
The move allows re/insurers, brokers and financial institutions to access validated, climate-conditioned flood risk data to support underwriting, capital allocation and risk management decisions.
Acquired by Swiss Re in 2023, Fathom has developed its Global Flood Cat model using state-of-the-art science and high-quality data, giving practitioners access to the same calibre of peer-reviewed science being integrated into Swiss Re’s internal view of flood risk.
Global Flood Cat offers risk professionals a ‘glass box’ view of hazard and vulnerability dynamics, allowing teams to interrogate the science behind every simulation. Evaluated by brokers, re/insurers and parent company, Swiss Re, the model aligns with industry benchmarks to deliver trusted flood risk insights across interoperable workflows.
Users can now request access to Fathom’s UK region model via Oasis LMF, Moody’s Intelligent Risk Platform (via Oasis SaaS) and Verisk’s Model Exchange.
Oliver Wing, Chief Scientist & Product Officer at Fathom, said, “Making the UK region of our flagship global model freely accessible moves multi-model views of risk from aspiration to reality.
“Allowing the market to harness the quality of Fathom’s peer-reviewed flood science within their direct workflows equips insurers, lenders and asset managers with independently validated risk intelligence to build true long-term resilience.”
“Risk modelling thrives when it is open, transparent and accessible,” said Dickie Whitaker, CEO of Oasis LMF. “Fathom’s decision to make their UK model freely available aligns completely with that ethos. Removing commercial friction from high-calibre science gives practitioners genuine choice and strengthens the entire open-modelling ecosystem.”
