Fidelis names John Symms Head of Outwards Reinsurance

Fidelis Insurance, the privately owned Bermuda-based holding company, has announced the appointment of John Symms as Head of Outwards Reinsurance.

Going forward, Symms will coordinate all aspects of Fidelis’s engagement with reinsurers across all segments of the business.

In this role, he will work closely with Phil Vandoninck, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Socium Fidelis’s partnerships Pillar.

Symms has joined Fidelis to fill this new role from his most recent position with Validus/AIG owned Talbot Underwriting.

Symms worked for 16 years at Talbot, spending most of his time placing and managing outwards reinsurance. Prior to that he worked at Reliance National for 10 years, underwriting, buying and managing reinsurance.

Fidelis explained that the appointment is expected to support the growth of its reinsurance partnerships across multiple lines of business.

This requires us to focus resources on the entire outwards process from broker and counterparty selection to placement and reporting. John’s extensive experience and relationships can only help us to develop further and offer a better service to our reinsurers.”
