Fitch Ratings, a global credit ratings agency, has appointed Harish Gohil as the new Global Group Head of Insurance, effective August 1.

fitch-ratings-logoGohil will be based in Fitch’s London office and will report to Marjan van der Weijden, the company’s Global Group Head for Financial Institutions.

He replaces Cynthia Chan, who has recently taken on the role of Global Head of Bank Ratings.

“Harish’s widely recognised insurance expertise and proven leadership of the European insurance ratings team will serve him well to lead the global team. I am confident that under his leadership, Fitch’s global insurance franchise will go from strength to strength,” added van der Weijden.

Gohil brings over 20 years of experience at Fitch, specialising in insurance within both mature and emerging markets. His contributions have been key in boosting Fitch’s standing and influence in the Middle East.

Starting September 1, Sabine Bauer will succeed Gohil as the European Head of Insurance Ratings. Bauer, who joined Fitch in 2005, has served in various capacities.

“Sabine brings a fresh perspective to the team with broad global credit expertise. Her varied background and leadership skills will be invaluable in driving our European analytical franchise forward,” added van der Weijden.

This includes Team Head for Bank Ratings across APAC, Group Credit Officer for EMEA Financial Institutions, and most recently, Criteria Officer in the Criteria Review Approval Group. She will be based in Stockholm and will report directly to Gohil.
