Gallagher, a global insurance broking and risk management company, has announced the appointment of Adriana Carvalho Assuncao, a specialist international tax and M&A lawyer, as a Director within its fast-growing Private Equity and M&A practice.

gallagher-logoCarvalho Assuncao, who is joining Gallagher’s UK-based team of the global practice, brings over ten years of expertise in advising multinational groups on complex cross-border tax matters.

She is joining Gallagher from KPMG, having spent six years with the company’s US international tax practice in London, most recently in the role of Manager.

In this position, she focused on international tax structuring, M&A transactions, and corporate reorganisations for both European multinational and US-based corporate clients.

Carvalho Assuncao is a qualified lawyer admitted to the Brazilian Bar and holds an LL.M in Taxation from Georgetown Law in Washington D.C., with professional experience in buy- and sell-side US tax due diligence, international tax structuring and providing legal counsel on sophisticated cross-border transactions.

Steve Jones, CEO of Private Equity & Transactional Risks in the UK, commented: “We are delighted that Adriana is bringing her extensive experience in international tax and M&A to Gallagher, as we continue to build out our specialist teams to support private capital clients and corporate transactions.

“Private capital is a huge driver of transformative growth around the world, involving complex transactions that demand the best multi-disciplinary minds and advisory services to maximise deal-value creation. International tax expertise and specialist counsel is a vital part of that client service and Adriana’s expertise will be a fantastic asset to our UK-based but internationally focused team.”

Giles Hambly, Head of Tax Insurance for the UK & Ireland, added: “The addition of Adriana to the team continues Gallagher’s commitment to bringing the highest levels of tax/legal expertise to our team, as we continue to build our reputation as a market leader in this field.”

Carvalho Assuncao’s appointment is the latest of several recent tax specialist hires across Europe, demonstrating Gallagher’s deepened investment in specialist risk expertise to expand client solutions for private capital business and those engaged in transactional risk activities.

Last month, corporate M&A tax advisor Tom Hughes joined the UK-based team from EY, as a Director of Tax Insurance, with Carvalho Assuncao continuing the practice’s focus on investing in international talent from the global professional services sector to best meet fast-evolving client needs.
