Global reinsurance broker Gallagher Re has announced the appointment of Daniel Veiga as CEO of Gallagher Re Brazil, Treaty Operation, effective immediately. Veiga will be based in Rio de Janeiro and work closely connected to São Paulo.
Veiga’s appointment is part of Gallagher Re Brazil’s growth plans and strategic investment in leadership.
Veiga will work alongside Gallagher Re Executive Vice President Fernando Tilger and in collaboration with Luiz Araripe, Country Head of Gallagher Brazil Retail and Facultative Reinsurance. He will report to Edson Wiggers, the CEO of Gallagher Re Latin America and Caribbean, who was overseeing the Brazil operation in collaboration with Tilger.
Wiggers commented on the hire, “We are excited to welcome Daniel to Gallagher Re Brazil. He is a highly-regarded industry leader with exceptional market knowledge, plus a passion for and dedication to providing best-in-class solutions to clients – invaluable assets as we continue to invest in and grow our business. Moreover, Daniel’s partnership with Luiz will help bolster the broader Gallagher Brazil operation, working with colleagues to provide innovative and client-centric solutions across the full spectrum of risk.”
Wiggers continued: “For further expansion of Gallagher Re Brazil, Daniel will closely collaborate with Fernando. These senior executives bring complementary strengths to our Brazilian leadership team, sharing common goals and a vision for excellence aligned with client advocacy and a culture of collaboration. Additionally, they offer solid technical abilities, well-established client relationships and proven reinsurance expertise across all lines of business.
Veiga is an industry veteran with more than 18 years of reinsurance industry experience. Prior to this, he was at IRB Re Brazil where he served as the Chief Underwriting Officer for all IRB non-life lines of business since 2021.
Over the last 15 years, Veiga has held a number of underwriting and executive roles, leading the strategy and development of specialty risks from 2014 to 2021. He has a strong focus on agriculture, financial lines, surety and credit, marine and aviation.
Veiga said, “I am honoured to join the Gallagher Re Brazil Treaty Operation, and I look forward to working with an industry-leading, talented team of reinsurance professionals. I welcome the many opportunities ahead as we advocate for our clients through integrated risk and capital advisory services while expanding our reach in the Brazilian market.”
Veiga’s hire within the Latin America & Caribbean division follows suit of Junaid Seria, who was hired in February to head up Catastrophe Analytics. Carlos Gonzalez and Harry Titherley, who joined as Vice President and Divisional Director, respectively, also joined in late 2022.
