Generali reveals new Group structure, appoints General Manager

The Board of Directors of Italian insurer Assicurazioni Generali, has approved a proposal from the Group’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Philippe Donnet, for the new Group organisational structure, which includes the creation of a new General Manager position. 

Generali logoThe organisational structure is effective September 1st, 2018, and is designed to increase the company’s ability to meet the challenges of its 2019-2021 Strategic Plan.

The insurer explains that the new strategy is based on three pillars: financial optimisation, profitable growth, and innovation and transformation of the business model.

As part of the new organisational structure, the position of General Manager will be created and will report directly to the firm’s CEO. The General Manager has been named as Frédéric de Courtois, who will take responsibility for the following areas of the Group Head Office: Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO); Group Chief Marketing & Customer Officer; Group Mergers & Acquisitions; Group Strategy & Business Accelerator; Group Operations & Insurance.

At the same time, the Group CFO, Luigi Lubelli, will leave the company to pursue other challenges. Current CFO of Generali Finance, Cristiano Borean, will take over as Group CFO as of September 1st, 2018. Borean will also become a member of the Group Management Committee, and he will be the manager within the Group, in charge of preparing Generali’s financial reports.

The Group has also announced the reorganisation of its Global Business Lines & International structure, explaining that regarding the Global Business Lines unit, duties have been reallocated in the following way: Country Manager Italy, Marco Sesana, will oversee Global Corporate & Commercial, Generali Employee Benefits, and Generali Global Health. While Country Manager France, Jean-Laurent Granier, will oversee Europ Assistance Group. 

Furthermore, Generali has established a new CEO International role to oversee operating companies and regions (Asia, Americas & Southern Europe, Spain, and Switzerland), appointing Jaime Anchùstegui Melgarejo to the position. 

Donnet, commented: “We are currently working on finishing the Plan 2016-18, and starting from the beginning of this year, we are defining the Strategic Plan 2019-2021. We have identified the directives and know what Generali must do to implement a growth strategy aimed at benefitting all of our stakeholders. The new organizational structure will allow us to reach our objectives, making our Group more efficient and leveraging on the quality of our management team.
