Generali’s Urlini re-elected as Chair of Insurance Europe’s GI Committee

12th January 2021 - Author: Luke Gallin

European insurance and reinsurance federation, Insurance Europe, has re-elected Franco Urlini, Group P&C, Claims and Reinsurance Director at Generali, as Chairman of its General Insurance Committee.

generaliHaving held the position since 2013, Urlini’s re-election sees him take on the role for an additional three-years.

Insurance Europe seeks to raise awareness to issues that are of strategic interest to all insurers and reinsurers across Europe, while at the same time heighten understanding of the role of re/insurers in providing protection and security to the community and the industry’s contribution to economic growth and development.

The federation also aims to promote a competitive and open marketplace to the benefit of European consumers and corporate clients.

Under the umbrella of Insurance Europe, the General Insurance Committee is tasked with overseeing P&C market trends, risks, and regulatory issues. Some of the most relevant issues include connected and automated vehicles, climate change and the sustainability of nat cat covers, cyber resilience, and in general, the sector’s ability to efficiently fill existing or emerging protection gaps (disparity between economic and insured losses post-event).

Tremor - The modern way to place reinsurance

Additionally, Urlini highlighted the continued challenge of the pandemic to the insurability of pandemic risks.

“Pandemic risk therefore takes its place among similarly potentially large risks, such as natural catastrophes or terrorism, which require partnerships between public bodies and the private insurance industry in order to develop innovative risk-transfer solutions.”
