GIC Re sees increased profit and gross premium income in Q1’27

General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re), the Indian public sector reinsurer, has announced its latest financial results, reporting increased profit after tax and gross premium income of ₹1,922.04 and ₹13,475.36 crore, respectively, for the first quarter ending June 30, 2026.

GIC ReQ1 2027 profit after tax was up from the ₹1,752.23 crore reported for the same period the year prior. Gross premium income in the quarter compares to the ₹12,388.01 crore seen in Q1 2026.

Incurred Claims ratio was 85.04% in Q1 2027, a decrease compared to the 90.42% in Q1 2026.

The underwriting loss went down by 20.26% to ₹723.87 crore for this year’s first quarter, compared to the ₹907.76 crore seen in the same period the year prior.

GIC Re also reported a combined ratio of 104.88%, which improved slightly when compared to Q1 2026’s 106.94%. The Adjusted combined ratio stood at 87.73% for Q1 2027, increasing from the 87.51% reported for Q1 2026.

Meanwhile, the reinsurer’s total assets increased by 5.19% to ₹2,07,789.87 crore as on June 30, 2026, up from the ₹1,97,539.62 crore seen in the same period last year.

GIC Re is considered the largest reinsurer in the domestic reinsurance market in India and leads most of the domestic companies’ treaty programmes and facultative placements.
