The Singapore Reinsurers’ Association (SRA) has announced its new leadership team following a recent Executive Committee meeting, including the appointment of Glen Riddell as Chair, succeeding James Beedle.
Established in 1979, the SRA is an industry trade association representing financial institutions licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) to transact reinsurance business in Singapore.
Beedle is retiring after a 36-year career in the reinsurance industry, having worked as both a broker and risk carrier across London, Sydney, Tokyo, and Singapore.
In a recent LinkedIn post, the SRA said, “As we welcome our new leadership team, we also extend our sincere appreciation to James Beedle for his outstanding contributions to SRA and the wider reinsurance community.
“James has served on the SRA Executive Committee for many years and played a pivotal role in advancing the Association’s education initiatives. As Convenor of the Education Sub-Committee from 2017 to 2024, he championed talent development and professional learning across the industry. He subsequently served as Deputy Chair from 2024 to 2026 before assuming the role of Chair in 2026.”
Riddell currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Berkley Re Asia Pacific, with responsibility for the leadership of Berkley Re Asia and Berkley Re Australia.
He joined Berkley Re in 2015 and was based in Singapore before relocating to Sydney in 2021. Prior to that, he spent three years as Head of Treaty Broking at Willis Re Australia and 16 years at Gen Re in various senior positions.
The SRA has also appointed Emma Loynes as Deputy Chair. She brings more than three decades of industry experience to the position.
Loynes has spent the past eight years at the specialist Lloyd’s marketplace and currently serves as CEO Lloyd’s Asia and Country Manager Singapore.
Before that, she spent 22 years at RSA (now Intact Insurance), most recently serving as UK Regions Operations Director, RSA Commercial.
Michael Hauer has been appointed Honorary Secretary. He has more than 30 years of reinsurance experience, with a strong focus on the diverse markets of Southeast Asia.
Hauer currently serves as Managing Director and Head of Non-Life for Southeast Asia at Munich Re’s Singapore branch. During his career at Munich Re, he has held several senior leadership positions, including Head of Marine Reinsurance, Asia Pacific, Singapore, and CEO of Munich Re Korea.
