Specialist insurer Markel International has named Gordon Lam as a Senior Professional and Financial Risks Underwriter, initially based in Singapore and expected to relocate to the firm’s Hong Kong office at a later date.
Lam is expected to join the insurer in early 2019, and will work closely with Head of Professional and Financial Risks, Simon Moi, to both manage and underwrite financial lines and casualty business in the Asian region.
He brings more than three decades of industry experience to the role, and Joins Markel from Beazley, where he was an underwriting manager. Before Beazley, Lam was a senior development/special projects manager at Citystate Asia Pacific Insurance.
Markel’s Managing Director for Asia, Matt Cannock, said: “Gordon’s appointment is significant for our PFR team as we grow our underwriting capabilities in Asia. He will be a great asset to our team, and I have no doubt our clients will stand to gain the most from this move. His appointment underlines our commitment to the region here and will play a big role in expanding our business footprint across Asia.”
Moi, added: “Gordon’s prior experience in managing a broad range of product lines including management liability and professional indemnity will benefit Markel significantly and he brings with him well-established contacts – valuable as we develop our book of business across the region.”
