Greenlight Capital Re’s subsidiary, Greenlight Reinsurance Ireland DAC, has announced Patrick O’Brien as new Chief Executive Officer.
O’Brien has been promoted to CEO after joining Greenlight Re Ireland in June last year, acting as General Manager.
Commenting on his promotion, O’Brien said Greenlight Re’s expertise in the US for innovative solutions and client service was “one of the great attractions to the role.”
“I look forward to continue developing our market offering with a focus on Europe. It is exciting to be part of such a forward thinking business,” O’Brien said.
Greenlight Re is of course backed by hedge fund manager David Einhorn and his Greenlight Capital hedge fund, so follows a less traditional reinsurance strategy on the asset side, as it seeks to put the premium float assets to work more aggressively, to produce a total return.
Greenlight Capital Re CEO, Bart Hedges, added; “Pat has a strong reputation in the insurance market, both in Ireland and internationally. His appointment reflects our commitment and ambitions within the Irish and European markets.”
Before joining Greenlight Re, O’Brien worked for Liberty Insurance Ireland, acting as CEO for the last three years after having served as Chief Operating Officer of Liberty Mutual Insurance Europe in London.
Prior to working for Liberty Insurance, O’Brien had served with The Hartford Group in Bermuda.
