Flood and climate risk intelligence provider Fathom has announced that Malcolm Haylock will be joining the firm as Head of Catastrophe Modeling on March 1, 2023.
Haylock will be based in Zurich, Switzerland, working closely with Fathom’s global team, which is headquartered in Bristol, UK.
Together, they will develop and deliver risk models that address the ever-evolving needs of a wide range of sectors, including insurance, engineering and financial markets.
Haylock joins Fathom from Global Parametrics, having previously worked at both PartnerRe and Aspen Re.
He also holds a PhD in Climate Science from the University of East Anglia.
Commenting on the new role, Haylock said, “I’m excited to be joining Fathom. The company’s research-driven approach and dynamic ways of working were a big draw, and I’m looking forward to contributing to Fathom’s continued success by helping calibrate workflows to strengthen our partnerships across industries.”
Fathom CEO Stuart Whitfield, added, “Malcolm’s wealth of experience and user knowledge of risk modeling make him a valuable addition to our team.
“We’re eager to see our catastrophe modeling capabilities evolve and expand with Malcolm onboard.”
In October last year, the firm announced the launch of Fathom-Global 3.0, a new map providing insurers with full global coverage of all flood perils.
At the time, Fathom said that the new map would enable users to quantify and mitigate flood risk, and understand changes in risk under future climate scenarios.
Unlike most maps, which are limited to inland fluvial and pluvial flood data, Fathom-Global 3.0 also models coastal flood risk.
