HCI Group, Inc., a Tampa-based insurance holding company, has reported net income of $83 million in the second quarter of 2026, up 18.6% from $70 million in the same period a year earlier.

HCI Group logoIn the quarter, the company posted pre-tax income of $111 million, up 18% from $94 million in Q2’25. Net income after non-controlling interests was $74 million, up 12% from $66 million.

Gross premiums earned totalled $321 million, up 6% from $303 million, driven by a higher volume of insurance policies in force, while average premium per policy remained relatively consistent.

Premiums ceded for reinsurance stood at $102 million, down slightly from $103 million, due to lower costs associated with the company’s 2026–2027 catastrophe reinsurance programmes, which began on 1 June 2026.

For its catastrophe reinsurance programs for the 2026-2027 treaty year, HCI secured $4.06 billion in aggregate excess of loss (XoL) limit, representing a 16% increase from the prior treaty year. It secured three reinsurance towers that run from 1 June 2026 through 31 May 2027.

Losses and loss adjustment expenses increased to $71 million from $64 million, primarily driven by a higher volume of policies in force. The gross loss and loss adjustment expense ratio for Q2’26 was 22.2%.

Net investment income increased to $19 million from $16 million, driven by growth in invested assets.

“HCI Group capped a strong start to the year delivering record second quarter financial results for the first half of 2026,” said Paresh Patel, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of HCI Group. “Our focus continues to be on achieving exceptional performance in all types of operating environments.”
