HDI Global, the corporate and specialty insurance business of the HDI Group, has appointed Ashwin Kapoor as Head of Political Violence and Terrorism (PV&T) and Tom Brown as Underwriting Manager at HDI Global UK & Ireland, effective 1 December 2026.

In the new role, Kapoor will report to Neil Dave, Head of Transportation & Crisis Management, and Brown will join his team.

The political violence and terrorism team will join HDI’s wider Crisis Management pillar, led by David Palmer. Palmer, as Global Risk Hub Leader for Crisis Management, will continue to lead HDI’s broader Crisis Management proposition in the London and international markets.

In their new roles, the pair will support the continued expansion of HDI’s political violence and terrorism portfolio, providing specialist underwriting expertise, strengthening broker relationships, and driving profitability.

Before this, Kapoor was Head of Political Violence and Terrorism at UK insurer Aviva, and has over a decade of experience across the political violence market, previously holding underwriting and leadership roles at insurer Chubb and broker Marsh.

Brown also joins from Aviva, where he was previously Terrorism and Political Violence Underwriting Manager. He also has a strong track record in underwriting positions at Chubb and insurer Allianz.

Simon Hunt, Chief Executive Officer HDI Global UK & Ireland, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ashwin and Tom to HDI and are confident that their expertise and capabilities will help drive the next phase of our growth.

“Expanding our Political Violence and Terrorism team is an important step in delivering our Xcelerate29 strategy, strengthening our specialist underwriting proposition and enhancing the service we provide to brokers and clients.

“Ashwin and Tom bring significant market experience and technical expertise, and their appointments reinforce our ambition to grow profitably across our target business lines.”

Palmer added, “Political Violence and Terrorism is a dynamic and increasingly important area of risk for many organisations. Ashwin and Tom are both highly respected underwriters with excellent market reputations and proven experience in this specialist sector.

“Their appointments significantly strengthen our capabilities, increase our underwriting capacity and support further growth within our wider Crisis Management pillar, while maintaining our disciplined underwriting approach.”
