Hiscox appoints Gareth Bateman & Lottie Catto to head up Special Risks unit

Specialist insurer Hiscox has appointed Gareth Bateman as Development Director of Security Incident Response (SIR) within its Special Risks division and Lottie Catto as new Strategic Development Manager to further support the growth of SIR.

The pair will lead the development of Hiscox’s SIR product which launched a year ago.

Since 2012 Bateman has been involved in the special risks and crisis management sectors, first at Willis, where he was a Divisional Director and most recently at Deloitte.

Bateman is a highly experienced crisis management professional with 10 years British Army experience in counter-terrorism and bomb disposal roles.

At Hiscox he will report to Charlie Hanbury, Head of Strategic Growth and Development at Hiscox Special Risks, who commented on the new appointments; “it’s a year since we launched our specialist Security Incident Response product and the response has been hugely encouraging both across Europe as well as the US.

“Over the year we have seen an enthusiastic uptake from brokers, seeking more innovative ways to meet their clients’ specific coverage needs.

“I’m pleased to welcome Gareth and Lottie to Hiscox as we build on a successful first year and continue to drive the development and penetration of the SIR product.”

Catto has spent seven years working in the security sector, most recently at GardaWorld (formerly Aegis Response) where she managed and supported on kidnap, piracy and threat extortion cases worldwide.

Previously she worked for Aegis Advisory specialising in maritime security.

Catto also sits on the Executive Committee for OSAC in London and is a member of the Women’s Security Society.

Hanbury added that the appointments “underpin our investment in a product which meets a real need for businesses of all sizes looking to access world-class incident response, crisis management, strategic advice and recovery services for a wide range of threats including kidnap, detention and extortion risks.”
