Insurance and reinsurance firm Hiscox has named an existing employee, Kate Markham, to the newly created position of CEO of its London Market business.

Hiscox logoThe move, which is subject to regulatory approval, sees Hiscox positioning itself to be ready for market changes and modernisation in the London insurance and reinsurance market.

In the new role, Markham will work closely with Paul Lawrence, the CUO of Hiscox London Market and Joint Active Underwriter for Syndicate 33. Both will be on the Hiscox Ltd executive committee.

Markham has been at Hiscox for five years, most recently in the role of Managing Director in the UK direct to consumer operation.

In that role Markham has built UK Direct into a market leading operation with a strong brand and a culture of creating customers for life, leading more than 200 people across underwriting, sales, marketing, operations, and delivering growth of 30% over 5 years.

Before her time at Hiscox, Markham was Head of International Enterprise at Vodafone, where she developed initiatives and operational processes to target and serve multinational clients globally. Markham began her career at Anderson Consulting (now Accenture).

Bronek Masojada commented on the appointment; “At Hiscox and Vodafone Kate has proven her ability to build profitable businesses in highly competitive markets. She will be a modernising force for our operations and culture, and relentless in making the most of the changing market and the opportunity it presents. The London Market will benefit from these skills now more than ever.”
